1. both/and=always plural
Ex : Both Lim and Khiem are going to gym tonight .
Both apple and orange are fruit .
both + names = emphasis.
2. Not only/but also = choice
Ex : Not only my dad but also my nieces live in Virginia.
Not only my nieces but also my dad lives in Virginia.
3. Neither/nor ( negative) = choice
Ex: Neither my pencils nor my highlighter is in the bag.
Neither my highlighter nor my pencils are in the bag .
4. Either/or = choice
Ex: Either my pencils or my highlighter is not in my bag .
Either my highlighter or my pencils are not in my bag.
(talk about more than 1 item at the same time.)
For number 2 , 3 ,4 : the subject that is closer to ther verb determines wjether the verb is singular or plural.
